The City has 132 blocks of chip and seal streets in town.
These are considered unimproved streets and are taxed as such.
We are in the second year of trying to get all of these streets done in a four-year period.
The ideal to maintain these streets would be to put a single seal on these streets once every three years. We have never been able to get to that point, but the city council is committed to trying harder. When the streets get in such bad shape they have to be torn up, following which a base must be put down and a double seal placed on top of that.
Remember that a chip and seal street is not a hard surface but a dust control.
