Construction Update

2ND & MAIN STREETS / BURLINGTON & WASHINGTON AVE. ALLEY -
Beginning July 30th, 2018, the east/west alley between South Main Street & South 2nd Street and the north/south alley between Burlington Ave. & Washington Ave. will be closed to traffic and pedestrians.  The closure is for reconstruction of the alleyways.

During this time, the utility billing drop box will be closed to vehicle traffic.  The drop box will still be accessible by foot or payments ca nbe dropped off inside City Hall during regular business hours.

For questions regarding this press release, please contact Melanie Carlson at Fairfield City Hall at 641-472-6193.

227TH STREET -

On Monday July 30th, Jones Contracting will be paving a significant portion of 227th Street.  There will be flaggers at the intersection of Highway 1 and 227th Street beginning at 5:30 AM and will last until dusk.  Please use caution in this area and expect delays.

SEAL COATING -

Beginning July 30, 2018, several City streets will be seal coated.  Sealing coating, also know as chip
seal, includes placing a thin layer of asphalt directly followed by a layer of small rocks.  The rocks are then rolled/pressed into the asphalt. Please move your cars off the street if you live in these areas:

  • Royal Oaks Lane
  • Sunset Drive
  • Fillmore Avenue west of 7th Street
  • 17th Street from Burlington to Jackson
  • 15th Street from Burlington to Jackson
  • 14th Street from Burlington to Jackson
  • Washington Avenue from 14th to 17th
  • Madison Avenue from 14th to 17th
  • Jackson Avenue from 14th to 17th
  • Water Works Road

For best results for the road and your vehicle, avoid driving on the road for 24 hours.  If you need to drive on the road, approximately 20 mph helps prevent throwing rocks and asphalt onto your vehicle but helps prevent the rocks from sticking to your tires.   Also make sure that all personal belongings are kept back from the edge of the road (trash cans, recycling bins, lawn ornaments).  The equipment will be equipped with back-up alarms and strobe lighting for safety so expect some level of noise.

The seal coating should be completed by Thursday, August 2nd.  Thank you for your cooperation and for any questions regarding this press release, please contact Darrel Bisgard at 641-472-4750.
