CAUTION: Construction Season

Construction season in Fairfield will kick off with water main replacement on Fillmore Avenue from Main Street to ‘D’ Street and Madison Avenue from Main Street to ‘E’ street.   The construction will begin on Fillmore Avenue the week of March 25, with work on Madison Avenue to begin a few weeks after Fillmore.  The Contractor, DC Concrete and Construction, will be moving between the two sites on a regular basis.  In order to limit disruption to Washington Elementary, water main construction on Madison Avenue from ‘D’ to ‘E’ will occur on evenings or weekends.  All of the construction is expected to be completed by the end of June 2019.  During construction, Fillmore and Madison will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Through traffic is encouraged to find an alternate route.

Also starting soon, the City will be replacing the water curb stop for City Hall.  The sidewalk in front of City hall will be closed, but the ramp will be open in order to access the front lobby.  The drop box will remain open during this time as well.  The curb stop replacement is in anticipation of the City Hall remodel work.  Bids were received on March 21 for the remodel, with SG Construction of Burlington, Iowa being the apparent low bidder.  A schedule of work for the City Hall improvements will be available once contracts are signed.  The City is expecting the work to begin late April.

The City of Fairfield has many more construction projects planned for 2019.  A map and description of the projects will be discussed at the Fairfield City Council meeting on March 25, 2019.
