The City allows residents to have up to ten (10) hens, roosters are not allowed. Chickens must be penned in the rear yard, a permit for the fencing will need to be applied for.
Other livestock is not allowed unless fencing requirements and setbacks can be met. Please call the Planning and Zoning Department for more details at 472-4181.

Certain low impact businesses can be run from home. Regulations are in place to ensure that home businesses are compatible with residential neighborhoods. The business may only occupy one room of the home or in a detached garage. Signs are limited in size and content, retail display of goods are limited, and only the resident of the home may work in a home based business. Other regulations are also in place.
Zoning affects every property; it regulates the types and sizes of structures, how far back they must be from property lines, and their uses. Zoning also regulates all uses of properties – everything from factories to fences. If you are thinking about buying a property, using a property, starting a business, building anything, installing a sign, etc., it is a good idea to call and make sure the idea is compatible with zoning. No question is a bad question!
Zoning regulations exist for several reasons: to preserve property values by ensuring that nearby property uses are compatible with each other, to ensure property owner’s ability to use, enjoy, and sell their property is not damaged by activities of neighboring properties, to promote new development that is compatible with the character of the community and the new or existing infrastructure of the community.
