Council Committee Assignments

 

Members of the Fairfield City Council serve on various committees as part of their duties as council persons.

Below is a listing of standing committees and their responsibilities.  Because members change from year to year, no listing of members is attempted here.  Contact Fairfield City Hall (641-472-6193) for up-to-date information as to who serves on which committee or fills a position.

 Ways and Means

 This committee is responsible for the development of the annual budget, including oversight of the adopted budget and the financial operations of the City.  Develops recommendations for charges for services provided by the City and the funding of proposed or existing programs approved by the City Council.

 Public Safety & Transportation

 This committee is responsible for Police and Fire department operations, criminal ordinances, and traffic control, safety issues, the transportation system of the City including Street department operations, street and alley maintenance and development of priorities for street improvements and repairs.

 Property

 This committee is responsible for oversight of city building maintenance and repair, real estate transactions and review of home occupation permits.

 Water & Sewer Utilities

 This committee is responsible for Water and Sewer deparment operations and policies and developing recommendations for improvements to the systems and complying with state and federal regulations.

 Personnel

 This committee is responsible for the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures for the City.  Reviews employment recommendations, staffing requirements and the administrative structure of the City and recommends policies or changes to the table of organization for the City.

 Environmental and Franchise Utilities

 This committee is responsible for solid waste management issues and development of policies regulating solid waste disposal and recycling programs.  It is also responsible for franshise utility issuces for cable television, gas, and electric and fir\ber optic utilities.

 Mayor Pro-tem

 Performs the duties of the Mayor in case of absence or incapacitation of the Mayor.

 Jefferson County Service Agency

 Represents the City Council on the 28E Agreement Board that oversees the operation of the Jefferson County Law Enforcement Center.

 SEMCO Board Representative

 Represents City Council on the Multi-County Landfill Board.

 Jefferson County Agency on Aging

 Represents City Council on Senior Citizen Center Board.

 Jefferson County Ambulance Board Representative

 Represents City Council on the Ambulance Operation Board.
