From the Mayor ...

 Mayor Ed Malloy

Thank you for visiting the City of Fairfield website and welcome. Whether you are a long-time resident of the city or new to our town, I hope you will find everything you need or the connections to other parts of our community you are looking for. Our desire is to make you feel at home and assist you in any way we can.

Fairfield is a community of people who share a deep sense of pride in our past, the traditions that sustain us, and the activities that create our future. We are in many ways an over achieving bunch, who consider ourselves fortunate to have such a rich community to build upon. We have received many State and National awards that define the unique character of our citizens. In 2006 we were voted one of Iowa's Great Places.  In 2003 we were named "The Most Entrepreneurial Community in America (10,000 population and under)" by the National Association of Small Communities and in 2004 we were named "Iowa's Most Entrepreneurial Community."  Mother Earth News included Fairfield in its Twelve Best Places to Live You've Never Heard Of.

We value good government, good schools and educational opportunities, healthy living, recreation, arts and culture. All of these and more are in abundance in our community. We believe in good and careful planning for our future. In 2002 we published a ten year strategic plan and this year we will complete a visioning and comprehensive plan for sustainability. Both documents are available on this site.

I couldn't be more honored to represent Fairfield and take great pride in telling the story of our community's successes. I also take personal responsibility to be accessible to all citizens and anyone interested in learning more about Fairfield, so please don't hesitate to contact me at City Hall, (641)472-6193
